The Next Chapter: 2009 Arrives

Happy New Year! Things have been quiet here … on purpose. We hope you had a great, restful holiday. With Christmas behind us, it’s time to close the book on 2008 and begin to write 2009. A friend sent an email from China, with a photo of fireworks and this quote, which I think is particularly apropos for this year. “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. Book Expo America: The AfterWord

It is amazing how long it has taken to get back in the groove … and I’m not sure I’m there yet. Having taken the Red-eye from LA Sunday night, most of Monday was spent sleeping and Tuesday was something of a blur. Wednesday was the last day of school for Catherine. I don’t know where Thursday went, and then I tumbled into Friday and the mid-day arrival of boxes of books. The BEA Book Report is now finally done. I couldn’t possibly have created a post with all of the titles, so I pulled a couple of books from new sources. A New Year Begins!

It’s January, and it seems like the word “resolution” is everywhere. Here in the tub, we tend to frame our resolutions in terms of what we want to do: Give parents, teachers, librarians, tutors, grandparents, et al, the tools they need to “grow a reader.” Still, January is as good a time as any to grab a cup of cocoa and think about where we’ve been and what lies ahead.
