CYBILS Finalist Lists: Easy Readers and Short Chapters

Childrens and Young Adult Bloggers AwardsI’ve spent the past few days browsing the 2009 Cybils finalist lists. With each list, I got more and more excited!  For once, there is a list with books I know and have read. I even nominated a short-chapter book finalist. What are the odds?

Serving on the Easy Reader/Short Chapter Book panel was a blast. I was already a fan of Sarah Neal (In Need of Chocolate); Anastasia Suen (Picture Book of the Day among others); Jennifer Wharton (Jean Little Library); and Melissa Young (Sweet On Books). But having the chance to talking books with them was just too cool.

There were a number of the books that I wasn’t initially familiar with, and I am glad to have had the chance to read them. It is nice to see such a variety of choices for new and developing readers.  I’ve got the covers and nomination data for the finalists, here, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you head over to the Jean Little Library, where Jennifer reviews all the nominated easy readers and short chapter books.

  2. Just picking among the Elephant and Piggie books is hard! Shampoodle is great for some laughs … I liked A Birthday for Bear, too. Can’t wait to see what you find and how your son likes them!

  3. I was so excited to see the finalists listed! There were so many in the beginning round, I don’t envy those of you trying to narrow down the long lists, but now that it seems more manageable I’m going to pick up a few this week. My son has really been getting into the Mo Williams Elephant and Piggie books recently, but I want to see how he takes to the others. Great finalists, I can’t wait to hear who wins!
